Plantation, Florida is a suburban coastal community and every year is at significant risk should a hurricane or tropical storm strike.  Everything changed in 1992. Hurricane Andrew struck South Florida, and that ushered in significant changes to local building codes.  At that time, Broward and Miami-Dade counties were designated to be in what is called a High-Velocity Wind Zone.  Because of hurricane Andrew Plantation is part of the strictest building codes in the country, and these codes also apply to your garage door.  A new impact-rated garage door is fabricated and tested to resist positive and negative pressure wind pressures generated by hurricanes. They are also tested to withstand debris being blown about by hurricane-force winds.
